- Achievements in 2008: At the last AGM we were honoured to receive the trophy for the highest increase in membership, as last year we had over 60 members. Throughout the year Staindrop excelled in the majority of competitions thrown at them by county. they entered 3 junior teams in the quiz along with 2 senior teams, coming home with both best senior and junior quiz trophies and individual prizes also. in club promotion we came 1st at county level and 3rd at northern area. This was a great achievement. the majority of our members are keen stock judges, live and carcase, as shown by our results in all areas with many members continuing to compete at Northern area. Staindrop also entered a team in brainstrust and came a respectable 2nd, one cooking team who came 3rd and two flower arrangers who represented County Durham at Nationals. Staindrop's greatest highlight has to be winning ‘Overall rally champions’. This was an excellent reward to all members for their hard work and determination. We came home with a range of trophies from junior sports, intermediate active class, to being awarded ‘Most efficient club’, including both, most efficient chairman and treasurer. We also saw many individual prizes being received by our members. Fundraising has always been a key issue with our young farmers and this year has been no different. Staindrop raised over £2000 from various events, the most memorable been our annual St. Patricks Day ball held back in march at the George Hotel, Piercebridge. It was attended by over 300. Another unforgettable event would have to be carol singing, more memorable to some than others. Our chosen charity was Ward 16, RVI children's ward in Newcastle. We spilt our fundraising efforts equally between our chosen charity and money towards the upkeep of our club. This year we have seen a variety of different meetings some going down better than others. surprisingly, flower arranging was a great success with some members discovering a hidden talent. another was a visit by a policeman from Durham Dog Constabulary. this was a very interesting and informative talk. This forth coming year Staindrop are hosting rally and hope to make it a memorable day for all.
